Work Breakdown

Following success in the first 18 months of the aceMedia project with the first Personal Content Services (PCS) research prototype, in the second period (from June 2005 to December 2006) we aim to carry out user evaluations of the first PCS application prototype, and complete the development of the first Commercial Content Management (CCM) application which will be available in month 24 (December 2005). To achieve this, we will continue to make significant advances in scalable video coding, knowledge assisted semantic multimedia analysis, and development of intelligent and personalisation multimedia content applications such as advanced search and retrieval and self-organising content.

Specific objectives for the period June 2005 to December 2006 include:

• further innovations in media analysis tools including release of a first version of the ontology learning module, and first versions of the knowledge-assisted multimedia analysis modules integrating the various tools developed in the project, such that semantic interpretation of scenes is achieved. This will initially be for the first PCS domains of family and holiday, but will later address the first CCM domains of motor sports and tennis. The ultimate objective is to create tools to interpret a wide range of domains.
• development of more advanced scalable video and metadata codecs, and their integration into an adaptive media delivery framework, allowing personalised content consumption on fixed and mobile platforms.
• development of technologically advanced platforms and tools for home and mobile domains to support ACE functionality, including ACE repositories and integration of privacy policies.
• evaluation of user interface designs and aceMedia initial research prototypes to drive the next innovation cycle. Integration of personalisation into the aceMedia system to enable more advanced applications to be developed.

In addition to the planned showcase of intelligent search and retrieval of multimedia content, a second showcase for ACE functionality will be via self-organising content, enabling the benefits of the ACE intelligence layer to be tangibly demonstrated.
