Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) will participate through the Escuela Politécnica Superior, one of Spain's major High Technical School teaching Computer Science and Telecommunications degrees and involved in several research projects (national and European ones). Within the Escuela Politécnica Superior, two research groups will be involved in the aceMedia project: the Image Processing Group (GTI: Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes) and the NETS-Networked Semantics Team.
The Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes is a research group on theory, methods, and applications of Digital Visual Processing. GTI was established in 1981, now being present in two major universities: the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) within the Escuela Politécnica Superior teaching two major engineering degrees (Informatics and Telecommunications); and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) within the E.T.S. Ingenieros de Telecomunicación.
Teaching and research activities cover Multimedia, Digital Image Processing, Television, Image Encoding, Image Analysis, Computer Graphics and Telecommunication Systems. GTI-UAM research activities focus on AV content analysis, AV content metadata for indexing, searching, filtering, browsing and transcoding based on standards (mainly MPEG-7 and MPEG-21).
GTI experience includes participation in the main EU programs related to IT and audiovisual research (COST, EUREKA, RACE, ESPRIT, ACTS, Telematics and IST). GTI has an average of 8 non-internal publications per year. Its members are active participants in conferences, committees, standardization bodies (mainly in MPEG-4 SNHC and MPEG-7), review boards, EU evaluation, and the Group has received several research awards.
Our experience in the areas of interest for aceMedia includes research,
development, and educational activities in the areas of the Semantic
Web, Personalization, Information Retrieval, and Social Networking. The
NETS team is currently participating in and leading several national
projects in these areas, and is actively involved in industrial
partnerships and international collaborations. A list of the projects in
which our group is involved can be found at
http://nets.ii.uam.es/projects. In addition, most members of our team
carry out educational duties in Computer Science and Telecommunications
Engineering at the Escuela Politécnica Superior of the Universidad
Autónoma of Madrid. Specific topics currently in the focus of ongoing
research by NETS members include: ontology engineering, semantic search,
user modelling, ontology learning, semantic annotation, semantic web
visualization, and semantic web services. In aceMedia NETS brings its
expertise in personalization, semantic-based technologies, and
profile-based information retrieval.
