Belgavox is the oldest production company and largest private audiovisual archive of Belgium.

The advent of television and its growing role as an instrument of information led Belgavox to change the formula of its newsreel: the newsreels broadcast in the cinema were gradually replaced by magazines: a younger style, thorough reports on "general public" subjects, allowed to reveal new facets of the great events Belgavox left the obscure rooms today to be devoted in particular to the realisation of documentary films and series and musical emissions intended for television.

Belgavox participated in 1956 to the creation of INNA. The producers of newsreels of the whole world joined the International association of the Filmed Press (INNA). Belgavox always took an active role in this centre, which made it possible for the company to regularly exchange reports coming from the whole world with the other members of association. Thus the Belgavox newsreels were shown in the cinemas of many countries.

In the fifties Belgavox teams ensured the international programming of the Belgian television news of the RTB and the BRT. A few years later, Belgavox set up the Congolese TV and Congovox the African equivalent of Belgavox.

Belgavox accounts for more than 30.000 different content items in different formats over a period of time of about 60 years. Founded in 1937, Belgavox is now a dynamic small company specialised in Multimedia Asset Management. Over the last decade it has developed the Paxos system, based on Hummingbird technology for retrieval and is now managing the Portal project within the EU eContent programme for the implementation of a multilingual portal based system for content search and B2B transactions. More recently, Belgavox has successfully submitted a Media Plus proposal, Nodal, gathering European main actors and content owners in the world of audiovisual content. Belgavox is also participating to the AIME standard for XML archive structure.
